BRISTOL, RI -- A longtime volunteer with the Bristol Fire Department collapsed and died early Monday as he was preparing to respond to a vehicle fire.
Wayne Brown, a fire police officer, was dressed in his yellow response gear when rescuers found him at his home, said Chief Robert Martin.
Not feeling well, Brown called for an ambulance, the chief said.
"I've been here for 30 years, and he was here before me," Martin said Monday afternoon. "He was one of our senior members who still supported us by being a member of the Fire Police."
Martin said more details will be released later.
