S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald

Today beside being Veterans Days is also the date after the loss of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. The ship went down on November 10/11, 1975  it was the subject of Gordon Lightfoot’s 1976 song ”The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The storm that hit when the Fitzgerald went down was one of the biggest, and the worst that Captain McSorley said he had ever seen. I love your post! I'm surprised you mentioned the fitz today. I thought that was just a local thing. I'm from Michigan and a big fan of great lakes history. Before the fitz sank there was another bad storm in November that claimed many ships. November is considered to be the worst month in great lakes shipping. There was a memorial held in Detroit this morning for the fitz as well. It was great to see your post. JS
