A bit of everything, good audio of Binghamton rampage

Failure is an option - VFD has 30 no-shows over the weekend after PGFD pulls career staffing: Statistics provided by the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department show Boulevard Heights VFD was struggling well before night and weekend career staff was removed last Wednesday. The engine and truck either failed or responded understaffed more than 65% of the time. With the removal of the two firefighters on shift work, the ambulance isn't getting out.

Boulevard Heights is also about to lose it's ladder truck. Officials confirm Truck 817 will soon be Truck 829 (Silver Hill). Silver Hill hasn't had a truck company since 1972.

There is also talk of a firehouse closing in Prince George's County. Click here to read it all.

Probably not the IAFF's man of the year: Take a moment to read the comments about the city's firefighters from Palo Alto, California Vice Mayor Jack Morton. Two of the words he used are "wealthy" and "overpaid". Click here for the rest.

Two fire companies could close with demotions and layoffs in Hoboken, NJ: From the HudsonReport.com - "The layoff plan calls for four battalion chiefs and six captains to be demoted, as well as two civilian clerks. Layoff notices were reportedly sent to those 12 people in the department last Friday, and the city is preparing police notices and other paperwork."

Radio traffic from Binghamton rampage: Click here to listen to the first police officers arrive on the scene and begin setting up to handle Friday's shootings that left the gunman and 13 others dead.

Chief says bill would make Idaho the laughingstock of the fire service: That's one reaction to a bill pushed by the building lobby in Idaho to eliminate the International Fire Code as a minimum standard. Read the details.

Hats off to the Geezer: Bill is sparking debate on helmet designs and preferences. Check out FireGeezer.

Firefighter Spot is showing adult pictures: Jason is working Geezer's side of the street. He has pictures showing actual FDNY members, on-duty and in gear, entering a XXX adult book store in Manhattan. Shocking. Did Statter, that tabloid TV reporter, bother to tell you the book store was on fire? There he goes sensationalizing things again. Please don't bother me with the details. Check it out for yourself.
