The Paxton Hotel fire was on of the most graphic fires in recent history. The use of ground ladders player a big part in the rescues. The initial still-alarm on the fire came in at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday. Only 56 minutes later, at 5:01 a.m., it went to a five-alarm. Reportedly started by a space heater, many people were trapped by burglar bars on first-floor windows; 20 people died..
