Wal-Mart bathroom eater jailed

While rest rooms are known as places to relieve yourself a 22-year-old man may have pioneered an alternate use. A loss prevention officer at a Wal-Mart Supercenter stated that Taylor Allen Dresia was "eating food" on the bathroom floor. Dresia's apparent picnic in the potty blocked the commode for patrons, and a store manager asked him to leave. "After a few minutes Dresia left and then returned in another entrance yelling that an employee stole something from his backpack while he was in the bathroom."

A deputy told Dresia to leave immediately. Dresia said he wasn't leaving and that he wanted to write something down. "Deputy advised Dresia not to play games and leave the store now," "Dresia again refused." Dresia was arrested by an Indian River County Sheriff's deputy, was described as argumentative. Deputies got Dresia, listed as homeless, out, arresting him on misdemeanor charges of trespassing after warning and resisting an officer without violence.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy spotted the man trespassing at a Destin park, reports the Northwest Florida Daily News in Fort Walton Beach.

That's when the man, Edmund Berkeley Barksdale, tried to explain his ‘business’ to the deputy. And the proof was in the pudding: Barksdale then reached into his shorts with his hand. When the 55-year-old man removed his hand, the deputy noted it had fecal matter on it, according to the arrest report. Unfortunately, Barksdale isn't the only person that has faced a messy arrest.

Two Career Fire Fighters Die and 19 Injured in Roof Collapse during Rubbish Fire at an Abandoned Commercial Structure – Illinois

On December 22, 2010, a 47-year-old male (Victim # 1) and a 34-year old male (Victim # 2), both career fire fighters, died when the roof collapsed during suppression operations at a rubbish fire in an abandoned and unsecured commercial structure. The bowstring truss roof collapsed at the rear of the 84-year old structure approximately 16 minutes after the initial companies arrived on-scene and within minutes after the Incident Commander reported that the fire was under control. The structure, the former site of a commercial laundry, had been abandoned for over 5 years and city officials had previously cited the building owners for the deteriorated condition of the structure and ordered the owner to either repair or demolish the structure. The victims were members of the first alarm assignment and were working inside the structure. A total of 19 other fire fighters were hurt during the collapse.

Contributing Factors

• Lack of a vacant / hazardous building marking program within the city
• Vacant / hazardous building information not part of automatic dispatch system
• Dilapidated condition of the structure
• Dispatch occurred during shift change resulting in fragmented crews
• Weather conditions including snow accumulation on roof and frozen water hydrants
• Not all fire fighters equipped with radios.

Key Recommendations

• Identify and mark buildings that present hazards to fire fighters and the public
• Use risk management principles at all structure fires and especially abandoned or vacant unsecured structures
• Train fire fighters to communicate interior conditions to the Incident Commander as soon as possible and to provide regular updates
• Provide battalion chiefs with a staff assistant or chief's aide to help manage information and communication
• Provide all fire fighters with radios and train them on their proper use
• Develop, train on, and enforce the use of standard operating procedures that specifically address operations in abandoned and vacant structures

Initial Summary:  
The lightning caused Diamond Fire was reported to Show Low Dispatch on 06/23/2011 at approximately 1200hrs local time. The location of the fire was confirmed by a helicopter to be north of the Black River on Fort Apache, approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Ten of Diamonds Ranch. The Fort Apache Helitack and Fort Apache Hotshots were dispatched as Initial Attack resources and were flown to a helispot located on a ridge top on Paddy Butte near the fire start. Terrain in the area is steep and rocky with a dense woodlands fuel type. Following completion of a handline around the approximately 35 acre fire all resources hiked back up to the helispot (spike camp). As resources returned to helispot, the Incident Commander determined that one firefighter was not accounted for and initiated a search to locate the missing firefighter. The firefighter was in possession of a handheld radio and attempts to contact him throughout the evening were not successful. After several sweeps of the area, law enforcement from local, county and state agencies were requested to assist with the search efforts. Search efforts continued throughout the night until the missing firefighter was found deceased at 0618hrs. Incident Location: Vicinity of Paddy Butte, AZ (USNG: 12S XC 292 230)

Lieutenant Ruprecht responded to a false alarm call at approximately 1200hrs. The following morning, he was found by family members having passed away during the night.

Chief's Corner: Firefighter Safety in Extreme Heat

With this summer's extreme heat in most of the country, and many areas experiencing triple digit temperatures, it is essential that you - and all of the fire service working in it - take care. Hydration before dehydration is key: do not allow yourself or those responding with you to place yourself at risk for heat related illness. Also, keep a lookout for your fellow firefighters.

Another critical function that needs to be established in this heat wave is emergency incident rehabilitation. Emergency incident rehabilitation is designed to ensure that the physical and mental well-being of firefighters and other emergency responders operating at the scene of an emergency does not deteriorate to the point where it affects their safety. It can prevent serious and life-threatening conditions such as heat stroke and heart attacks from occurring. Rehabilitation is not just for incidents, it is also a must for operational training.

Fire departments should be in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1584 Standard on the Rehabilitation of Members Operating at Incident Scene Operations and Training Exercises.

USFA has resources to assist you and your department in establishing an effective emergency incident rehabilitation program, including a comprehensive guide on Emergency Incident Rehabilitation (PDF, 5.6 Mb) which was developed through a partnership with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). This Man stuck in a hole while trying to get his phone back

Interesting rescue to say the least - Walking to a friend’s house, Jared Medeiros was set upon by a group of men who left him battered and bruised.

And, adding insult to injury, his phone was then chucked through a manhole cover by the attackers.

But the 21-year-old refused to accept the phone was gone and decided it would be a good idea to stick his head down the drain to retrieve it and call police.

It was not a good idea. He became stuck fast – and the alarm was raised only after he had been in there screaming for about 40 minutes.

‘I was concerned but I was also laughing – it was funny!’ said Brianna Mooney, 16, who called the emergency number

Mr. Medeiros was freed by firefighters, who spent hours trying to pull him out.

He said he had been beaten and kicked by four men.

‘I don’t understand why they would sit and take pictures,’ said Mr. Medeiros. ‘That kind of p****s me off.’
