What’s he or “we” doing? to the AFG?

Analyzing President Obama's state of the union address Full story at Washington post

Highlights: President Obama delivered the first state of the union address of his presidency, a 71-minute speech that ranked as the sixth longest in presidential history. (The famously long-winded Bill Clinton has four of the five longest speeches.) The White House posted its version of the highlights from the speech and you can read the whole thing for yourself; Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell delivered a solid if not spectacular Republican response that will likely cement his status as a rising star within the party. The gaffe of the night? That came from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito who mouthed the words "not true" when the president condemned the recent Citizens United ruling.

On the fire side, is his halt to federal spending going to put a halt  to the assistance to firefighter grant program. It’s been a year to year funding for this program Could this be an end, better get your information in line for applying this year as it may be the last year for the AFG????

Victory for the little person in America? Remember this should be an interesting year for elections, stay informed!

From Minnesota Majority

Tuesday, our nation witnessed a historical election in Massachusetts.  Voters there elected Republican Scott Brown to the seat formerly held by the late Senator Edward Kennedy.
Brown's election breaks the filibuster-proof majority that Democrats held in the US Senate, making it much more difficult for the Administration to ram their socialist agenda through Congress.
Yesterday Minnesota Majority released a new video entitled 'A New Day is Dawning in America.'  I encourage you to watch this 60-second video by clicking on the link below:

Interesting - Backdraft caught on tape

As posted to You tube - A Baltimore fire official says five firefighters were injured battling a blaze at a row house.
MD Baltimore N. East Ave Fire Department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says when firefighters arrived at the row house on North East Avenue around 6 a.m. Friday they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement spreading to the first floor.
Cartwright says one firefighter suffered a first-degree burn and may have fractured his arm. He was taken to Bayview Burn Center, where he is listed in stable condition.
Four more firefighters with less serious injuries were taken to other hospitals and are also in stable condition.
Cartwright says it took about a half hour to control the blaze and the cause is under investigation. He says its not yet clear whether anyone was home when the fire broke out.

Today is the the 115th anniversary of Butte`s Great Explosion.

It was about five minutes before ten o`clock on the night of January 15, 1895, that an alarm of fire was turned in from what has since come to be known as “Fateful Box 72,” located at the corner of Utah Avenue and Iron street. When the Central station appratus reached the scene of the fire the flames were bursting through the roof of the Kenyon-Connell warehouse. Then came the first great death dealing explosion. The exact time of its occurrence is given as eight minutes after ten, just thirteen minutes from the sounding of the alarm. More to read at Butte public library

Methanol Hazards

Here is another source for some info:

The Emergency Management and Response--Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EMR-ISAC) examined the Methanol Safe Handling Manual (PDF, 918.7 Kb) published by the Methanol Institute. According to the Methanol Institute, the manual was designed to be a resource for current information on methanol's properties, potential environmental and health and safety hazards, safe handling practices, emergency response procedures, fire safety, and risk communication.
Known as "wood alcohol," methanol is a clear, flammable liquid with a faintly sweet pungent odor. Methanol occurs naturally and is produced synthetically. It is used in multiple products including plastics, paint, construction materials, as well as fuel in some race cars, monster trucks, go-carts, and model planes, boats, and cars. In addition, methanol is utilized for denitrification (i.e., nitrogen removal) in municipal wastewater treatment plants and can also be used as turbine fuel for electric power generation.
Ingestion can cause irreversible injury to the nervous system, blindness or death. Methanol causes eye, respiratory system, and skin irritation. The manual explains that methanol fires generate less heat, have nearly invisible flames in daylight, and produce very little smoke. Considering the risks, first responders may find the Methanol Material Safety Data Sheet (PDF, 33.4 Kb) a quick reference and companion to the Methanol Safe Handling Manual.
The EMR-ISAC confirmed that the Methanol Institute is offering a free DVD that can be another resource for training. The DVD discusses basic physical components, key risks of handling methanol, ways to minimize exposure, fire and release into the environment, and event response. For general operating procedures, first responders can also refer to the Emergency Response Guidebook, guide #131.

They walk among us...

Not mine, but interesting none the less, received via email, been around and started the new year off right. Makes you think?

IDIOT  SIGHTING:
We had to have the garage  door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of
our problems  was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I
thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears  made at that
time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said,  "Lady, you need a 1/4
horsepower." I responded that 1/2 was larger  than 1/4. He said, "NO, it's not..
Four is larger than two..."
We  haven't used Sears repair since.
IDIOT  SIGHTING:
My daughter and I went  through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the
clerk a $5  bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said,
"You gave me too much money." I said, "Yes I know, but this way you  can just
give me a dollar bill back." She sighed and went to get the  manager who asked me
to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed  me back the quarter, and said
"We're sorry but we cannot do that  kind of thing." The clerk then proceeded to
give me back $1 and 75  cents in change..

IDIOT  SIGHTING:
I live in a semi rural area.  We recently had a new neighbor call the local
township  administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign
on our road. The reason: "Too many deer are being hit by cars out  here! I don't
think this is a good place for them to be crossing  anymore."

IDIOT SIGHTING IN FOOD  SERVICE:
My daughter went to a local  Taco Bell and ordered a taco. She asked the person
behind the  counter for 'minimal lettuce.' He said he was sorry, but they only
had iceberg lettuce.

IDIOT  SIGHTING:
I was at the airport,  checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked,
"Has anyone  put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I
replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" He  smiled knowingly
and nodded, "That's why we ask."
Happened in   Birmingham ,   Ala.
IDIOT SIGHTING:
The  stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was
crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine. She  asked if I knew
what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals  blind people when the light
is red. Appalled, she responded, "What  on earth are blind people doing
driving?!"
She was a probation  officer in Wichita ,   KS
IDIOT SIGHTING:
We were  having a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker, as she was
leaving the company due to 'downsizing' Our manager commented  cheerfully, "This
is fun. We should do this more often." Not another  word was spoken. We all just
looked at each other with that  deer-in-the-headlights stare.
This was a lunch at Texas  Instruments.
IDIOT  SIGHTING:
I work with an individual who plugged her  power strip back into itself and for
the sake of her life, couldn't  understand why her system would not turn on. A
deputy with the  Dallas County Sheriff's office, no less.
IDIOT SIGHTING:
When my  husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we
were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service  department and
found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the  driver side door. As I watched
from the passenger side, I  instinctively tried the door handle and discovered
that it was  unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "It's open!" His
reply, "I know. I already got that side.
This was at the Ford  dealership in Canton , MS  (NO WONDER FORD'S IN  TROUBLE!)
IDIOT  SIGHTINGS:
When I left Hawaii and was transferred to   Miami , Florida   , I still had the
Hawaiian  plates on my car, as my car was shipped from Hawaii . I was  parking
somewhere (I can't remember) and a Latino guy asked me "Wow,  you drove from
Hawaii to here?" I looked at him and  quickly said "Yep. I took the  Hawaii/San
Francisco Bridge". He  nodded his head and said, "Cool"!
STAY ALERT! They walk among us...
